The truth is, Samsung had every right to be pioneers of this innovation but they lost, and we are disappointed. How on Earth can that be possible? Is the Flexipai device still a teaser, a demo or could it be out there already? All of this thoughts circled around my mind considering all the reports Samsung gave us from 2014 thereabout till now. Credible sources always tipped Samsung to be well ahead of the race.
Samsung’s Kept Coming Close
The South Korean company introduced the infinity display which is that curvy, bending screen feature the recent Samsung Galaxy S series is popular for.
Recently, stories of how the company has discovered a bendable and unbreakable LCD also emerged unknowing to us that the difference between bendable and foldable can be so much. That is that about Samsung. Now let’s shift focus to our proud winners.
Foldable Flexipai Is The First Of It’s Kind
It is called the Flexipai, from the stables of Royole technologies which means Royal in English. A conference was held on Wednesday where the device was launched and the company has started to receive pre-orders for the device.
Royole’s Flexipai Is A Tablet Or Smartphone, When You Fold Or Unfold.
Unfolded, the Flexipai spreads up to 7.8-inches just like the iPad mini. The screen has a 1920 x 1440 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio. When folded, the device turns into a dual-screen smartphone that has three screens.
The primary screen has a resolution of 810 x 1440 with 16:9 aspect ratio, the secondary display is at 720 x 1440 and 18:9 aspect ratio, while the edge display features 390 x 1440 resolution and a 21:6 aspect ratio. The edge screen is where your notifications like incoming calls and text are displayed when you are watching videos and so on.
The device is said to have a faster charging tech called the RO charge which is 20% better than the popular fast charge. This will ship with Qualcomm next-gen chip (8-series), Other specs include 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. Water/dust resistance is not known yet but in the US, only the 128GB and 256GB models are available for pre-order, priced at $1,318 and $1,469, respectively.
