Leading Smartphone company Samsung sets to launch its 2018 flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S9. The company launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ March 2017 and the device is still one of the best-looking phones on the market till date. The S8 delivers an amazing display, thanks to its Quad HD AMOLED Infinity Display, the device camera is just so good for capturing and sharing your moments on social media.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is likely to be one of the best smartphones we’ll be seeing this year and while the device is still expected to bag tons of new upgrades and features, fortunately, it won’t be getting much of an upgrade from the Galaxy S8 just as the S8 didn’t get much different from the S7.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Design
If your mindset about the Galaxy S9 is to see a whole new design different from what we’ve seen on the S8, then you better climb down from your high hopes. Samsung won’t be introducing a new design concept for the S9, we’ll be seeing a repositioned fingerprint sensor at the back of the devices making it cooler to the S8 which had it sensor beside the camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to have slimmer bezels compare to the S8, although nobody complained about the GS8 having big bezels, it is even called bezel-less. With the S8+ having a screen-to-body ratio at 84%, according to a report on SamMobile, the S9+ is expected to have a screen-to-body ratio of 90%, a 6% increase leading to the virtually nonexistent bezel on the Galaxy S9.
Improved Iris scanning
SG9 will be accompanied by an improved iris scanning system to go head-to-head with Apple’s facial recognition technology. A report from The Korea Herald says that Samsung will be upgrading the front-facing camera on the S9 from 2MP up to 3MP, and this will allow for faster scanning even when users are wearing glasses or in dark environments.
The time it takes to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S9 using iris scanning will be shorter than the current one-second time on the S8, and there will also be improvements on the software side of things to make iris scanning just as (if not more) secure than Face ID.
Dual rear camera
Unfortunately for GS9, only GS9+ will feature a dual-rear camera, but both will have a much more accessible fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 8 was Samsung’s first smartphone to ship with dual cameras.
The regular GS9 will retain a single camera, and it is still expected to take great photos. Also, the Galaxy S9+ will be shipped with 6GB of RAM which means a boost in the device performance compared to the S9’s 4GB count.
Battery increase of 200 mAh
Whenever I hear a flagship is about to launch, one thing I’m always very concerned about and want to find out about the new device is a huge battery capacity, Apparently, most flagships devices haven’t been doing well in terms of the battery life.
The S8’s is packed with 3,000 mAh battery capacity which isn’t bad, but it’s also not the best we wished for. Galaxy S9 will come with a slightly larger battery of 3,200 mAh, definitely not much of an increase for the next flagship. I was hoping to see 6, 000 mAh battery capacity on the S9.
Increased Storage Capacity
We’ve heard rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S9 received a massive upgrade of 512GB internal storage, and yes, you may very well have the option of purchasing one with 512GB of internal storage.
With such increase in the internal storage, there may not be a need for microSD or probably Samsung may just decide to ditch the slot like it did on the S6 in 2015. Samsung announced on December 5 that it had begun mass-producing the mobile industry’s first 512GB chips, and although not directly mentioned, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this extra storage make its way to the S9/S9+.
