Since the very first release of the Windows 10 till its current version, Microsoft has continued to tweak the Start Menu, and the Windows 10 April 2019 update will bring an improved look and extra feature to the start menu.

One of the noticeable change in the start menu is, it now comes with a more portable look (reduced tiles and shortcut for pre-installed apps). Another interesting addition is the ability to now uninstall pre-installed apps that you don’t use from the start menu or Windows generally.

The new improved start menu will be more responsive one launch even faster in April 2019 update.

Improve Skin (Light and dark mode)

Microsoft has included an improved light skin option in the Windows 10 while also making improvement to the dark theme as well. The new light skin gives the Windows UI a better look and feel unlike the current light skin option in Windows 10. You get a better contrast and it’s a lot easy on the eyes.

The Dark theme, on the other hand, has extended support to some area in the Windows OS and also improved in some Microsoft apps, some of which include the Mail, Calendar etc. Dark mode now works when composing a new message, updating a calendar item or reading your email, providing users a calmer reading experience in low light environment, and helps to reduce eye strain

Both skin option now has a better adaptation on Windows start menu too.

Windows Sandbox

Microsoft released a preview build 18305 for Windows 10 version 1903, this introduced a new feature called Windows Sandbox which I assume some of us may be familiar with already, especially if you use Avast Antivirus software for your PC protection.

Windows Sandbox is a lightweight desktop environment that has been designed for users to test “untrusted/unsigned software”. This is basically a virtual environment that lets you run a Windows in Windows allowing users to test out unsigned/untrusted software or settings without affecting the main OS.

This is one of the most interesting features you’ll find in the Windows 10 April update, with this new feature you may not need to install a virtual machine to test apps anymore expect you want it for something else or to run another type of OS.

This will help reduce virus infection through malicious app and programs flooding the internet. Any software installed in Windows Sandbox stays only in the sandbox and cannot affect your host (main OS). Once you close Windows Sandbox, all the software, its files and settings are permanently deleted.

Changes to Search and Cortana

Search and Cortana has always been in the same taskbar on Windows 10, however, the April 2019 update might be the end of their relationship. As seen in the preview build 18317, both tools will be separated from each other and work independently.

You can now pause Windows 10 updates (Biggest Change)

Windows 10 April 2019 Update | Pause Windows Update

For a long time, Windows users have complained over Windows 10 automatic update and now Microsoft has now decided to include the ability to pause Windows update for a number of days.

This is the biggest features in we’re expecting in the Window 10 April 2019 update and very handy feature to say. Now, users can have a little take their time to check if new updates are working correctly before installing, and if there are issues, users can pause the update until they’ve been fixed.

This will help prevent issues like data lost during Windows Update as we’ve seen in the Window 10 October update and previous.

There are several other features we’re expecting to see in Windows 10 April 2019 update, however, the above features are the most noticeable changes we’re going to see in the update. The ability to pause update is a feature I can’t wait to see in Windows and hopefully, we’ll get more options to pause Windows update in subsequent updates.
