ZTE has launched the world’s first under-display camera smartphone called the Axon 20 5G. The ZTE Axon 20 5G is the first smartphone to feature a true full-screen display all thanks to the under-display cameras technology.
Before now, manufacturers have opted for notches, punch holes, and pop-up camera mechanism in order to attain a true-full screen display. The pop-up camera technology has been the closest solution to bring a true fullscreen display, however, it has its own disadvantages.
The in-display camera tech, however, has been able to bring a full edge to edge screen while also addressing the disadvatnages of pop-up cameras.
ZTE Axon 20 5G Specifications And Features
The ZTE Axon 20 5G is built around a 6.92-inch FHD+ edge to edge OLED display featuring 1,080 x 2,460 pixels resolution, 20.5:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The device houses a 32MP under-display camera which is the main selling point and uses an in-display fingerprint sensor. The display supports 10bit colour and covers 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut.
On the rear, there is quad-camera setup with dual-LED flash. The device uses an aluminium frame and glass protection on both front and rear.
The ZTE Axon 20 5G is by Snapdragon 765G SoC with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage that also be expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). The rear cameras include a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP lens for macro photography.
The device runs ZTE’s Android skin called Mifavor 10.5 based on Android 10 and fueled by a 4,220 mAh battery that comes with supports for 30W fast charging.
As for the available connectivity options on the ZTE Axon 20 5G, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G, GPS, NFC, a USB Type-C port for charging, and of course 5G support. Sensors onboard include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and fingerprint (under display, optical).
ZTE Axon 20 5G Pricing And Availability
The ZTE Axon 20 5G will come in Black, Gold, Blue, and Purple colour option and priced at CNY 2,198 ~ ₹23,500 (NGN 123,939) for the base model with 6GB + 128GB storage, the 8GB + 128GB option costs CNY 2,498 ~ ₹26,750 (NGN 141,176) and the 8GB + 256GB option costs CNY 2,798 ~ ₹30,000 (NGN 158,131).
The device will be available in China starting September 10 and no word as to when the device will go global. Although ZTE is the first manufacturer to commercialize an under-display camera smartphone to the market, it won’t be long before other manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo and Samsung join the under-display camera trend.
